SWIFT Payment Formatting – Guidelines

To maximise the chances of your payments reaching beneficiaries successfully, we recommend these formatting best practices, in your payment instructions:

Ordering Customer (Your details)

  • Full legal name (avoid initials)

  • Full street address (P.O. Boxes are not accepted)

  • City, county/region, and postcode

  • 2-letter ISO country code

  • Account number

Beneficiary (Recipient details)

  • Full legal name – Account Holder (avoid initials)

  • Full street address (note: P.O. Boxes may cause delays or rejections)

  • City, county/region, and postcode

  • 2-letter ISO country code

  • Full account number (IBAN where applicable)

Beneficiary Bank

  • Full bank name and address

  • SWIFT BIC code (8 or 11 characters)

  • National clearing or routing code (where required)

  • Intermediary bank SWIFT BIC (for cross-currency payments)

Payment reference:

Always include a clear and specific purpose of payment. To make this easier, we've added a list of payment purpose codes to help you select the most appropriate option.

Please note: Cross-border payments in exotic currencies may carry a higher risk of rejection or return.

CNY – Chinese Yuan Renminbi - Payments to Mainland China

Beneficiary must be activated in RCPMIS before first transaction. (RCPMIS is China’s Central Bank Information System) When processing these transactions, the beneficiary name must exactly match the records stored in RCPMIS.

Required Information: Purpose of Payment Code: 6-character code:

  • Goods: /CGODDR/

  • Services: /CSTRDR/

  • Capital transfer: /CCTFDR/

  • Charitable donation: /CCDNDR/

  • Other current account: /COCADR/

· Beneficiary Bank code BIC/SWIFT: xxxxCNxx format

· Beneficiary Bank Branch Address (starting with ADD.)

Important Restrictions:

  • Payments to individual residents in China are not permitted

  • Payments to non-resident beneficiaries are heavily restricted and subject to local regulations

  • Trade Related and Travel Related payment purposes cannot be used when paying individuals

AED — UAE Dirham

IBAN: Mandatory for all UAE beneficiaries

⚠️ Purpose Code: among all possibilities, the main Key codes are:

SAL (Salary)

RNT (Rent)

TAX (Tax)

UTL (Utility)

SCO (Construction)

STR (Travel)

TTS (Technical services)

TOF (Transfer of funds)

Bank Code - SWIFT BIC: xxxxAExx format

CAD — Canadian Dollar

Account number: Concatenation: [4-digit bank] + [5-digit transit] + [account]. No IBAN in Canada.

Canadian Wire account numbers are typically between 6 and 12 digits and vary in length.

Bank Code - SWIFT BIC: Mandatory

MXN — Mexican Peso

Beneficiary Account Number CLABE: 18-digit standardised account number

RFC (Tax ID): 12–13 character Mexican tax ID

Bank Code - SWIFT BIC: xxxxMXxx format

Payment details field: Limited to 40 alphanumeric characters

JPY – Japanese Yen

Amount: Whole numbers only (no decimals).

Purpose of Payment: Mandatory

Bank Code - SWIFT BIC: xxxxJPxx format. The Post Bank (JPPSJPJ1XXX) is NOT supported.

THB – Thai Baht

Purpose of Payment: Mandatory - /REG/[Country Domicile]/[Purpose Code] format

Bank Code - SWIFT BIC: xxxxTHxx format. Mandatory
