Bulgaria is switching from the Bulgarian lev (BGN) to the euro (EUR) as part of the country's journey to join the Eurozone.
They have been on this path for years.
Bulgaria joined the European Union in 2007 and entered the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM II) in 2020 (sometimes known as the “ Euro membership waiting room”.)
And last year, the green light was given for a full Euro switch in 2026.
Bulgaria will officially adopt the EUR on January 1st 2026.
