The Margin Deposit for Forward Contracts

When subscribing to a forward contract with iBanFirst, you will be required to provide an initial margin deposit. This deposit, expressed as a percentage of the notional amount of the contract, is intended to protect iBanFirst from potential financial losses related to this transaction.

📊 Where to View Your Margin Deposit Parameters

The rules applicable to your margin deposit are available on the iBanFirst platform:

Menu: Collateral Account > Rules and Parameters

🧾 Examples of Margin Deposit Types

✅ Example 1: Decreasing Margin Deposit

  • A contract with a maturity of less than 180 days requires an initial deposit of 5%.

  • When the remaining maturity drops below 30 days, the required margin is reduced to 3%.

  • You can then recover the 2% released from your collateral account.

✅ Example 2: Flat Margin Deposit

  • A fixed rate of 2% applies, regardless of the contract’s maturity.

  • The deposited amount can be recovered at the contract’s maturity.
